Using the module three distinct home types are developed. Their varying scale provides for an inviting site design aimed at promoting a sense of community, and allows each home direct access to a semi-private courtyard space.
The homes are designed based on the standard dimensions of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs). Each home is built entirely from one of three standard units: a wall unit, a window unit, and a door unit.
Using the standard 4’ grid, three distinct plan types are derived: two two-story plans and one fully accessible single-story plan. These variations in footprint and scale allow for a more dynamic site configuration to stimulate social interactions.
A 4’x8’ standard, accessible W/C is pulled out as a connection point. This assures an efficient plumbing layout and allows for variety when attaching the homes, required to meet townhome standard.
The system allows for myriad unit configurations. This assures a vibrant layout, promoting chance encounters while allowing each home an outdoor view on all four sides.
The result of these interventions is an efficient building system, sufficiently adaptable to allow for a permeable site in which each resident of the community has direct access to an internal courtyard.
